Is It Painful To Get Dental Implants? What To Expect From Your Surgery

Dental implants are an excellent way to permanently restore missing teeth and get your smile back in Elk Grove. But the process of getting a dental implant can be intimidating, especially if you’ve never had dental surgery before.

So you may be wondering if it’s painful to get dental implants. Will your surgery hurt? What about the recovery process? Get answers to these questions and more in this blog from The Grove Family Dental.

Implant Surgery Is Completely Painless

First, it’s important to understand that your surgery will not cause you any pain or discomfort. At The Grove Family Dental, Dr. Enaya will take every possible precaution to provide you with a pain-free dental experience.

We use powerful local numbing spray and injections to make sure the nerves below your treatment site are numb, and we also offer both nitrous oxide sedation and pill-based forms of sedation for patients who are nervous or anxious about their surgery.

Together, numbing and sedation ensure that your treatment will be fast, easy, and painless. You won’t feel a thing at our office, so you can get dental implants in Elk Grove with confidence from Dr. Enaya and the team at The Grove Family Dental.

You’ll Experience Some Mild Pain And Discomfort As You Recover

Once you’ve left our office and your numbing and sedation begin to wear off, you will start to experience some pain and discomfort.

This is normal, and to be expected. We use minimally-invasive techniques to reduce healing times and pain, but implant surgery still does involve cutting into your gums and jaw bone. Some pain and discomfort is a natural reaction to the procedure.

To help you deal with pain and discomfort and ensure that you recover properly, Dr. Enaya will provide you with a set of recovery instructions that will help you heal faster and deal with your pain. Discomfort usually is mild, and peaks within 1-2 days after your surgery, then begins to become less noticeable. Most patients can go back to work the day after their implant placement surgery.

Your Mouth Will Be Completely Pain-Free Within 2 Weeks After Surgery

Most patients will feel very little pain and discomfort about a week after their implant surgery, and their gums and mouth should feel completely normal within 2 weeks.

After this time, the implant site may still feel a little sore if you put a lot of pressure on it, but it shouldn’t feel painful, and you should no longer have any significant swelling, bruising, or inflammation near the implant site.

Around this time, you’ll also come in for a follow-up appointment at The Grove Family Dental so that Dr. Enaya can check your recovery progress, remove sutures (if present) and ensure that you aren’t experiencing any complications.
